Change may be inevitable, but outcomes are not. While we can't control many, if not most most environmental factors, the choices we make to deal with them are the major determinant of outcomes. Clear and realistic goals, appropriate supporting objectives, and definitive tasks make it easier to get to where you want to go. In other words, if you don't know where you're going, you'll probably end up somewhere else. Foremost, remember that when things go other than what you want, you are not a victim; you are the captain of your fate. If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. As Francis Bacon said: "Fortune may be blind, but she is not invisible."
ReplyDeleteTo deal with life transitions, I focus on the physical aspect. By this I mean taking the time and opportunity to engage in aerobic activities. By just taking the opportunity to walk and keep your body in shape, it is one less area of your life (poor health) that you must deal with. Many people feel they do not have the time to do this. They believe they are too busy and that they cannot find 20 minutes, three times a week to accomplish this. I disagree. I think this is important and for me personally, a necessity. A strong body helps you deal with life transitions.
ReplyDeleteThere will be many transitions in your adult life from entering college, living away from your parents for the first time, graduating and transitioning to full time work, getting married, or having kids; you will find that these transitions in your life will be filled with excitement but also present many challenges that you’ll face for the first time.
ReplyDeleteTo be successful, its important to know what each transition will bring and what challenges you will face. I started college unaware of many of its challenges, from not studying enough, poor time management, to over-commitments of my time in club activities and sports, etc. aI made a lot of poor decisions early on and that definitely set me back initially.
Having been the first in my family to go to college, my first year in school became difficult to navigate. I lack anyone to approach for advice. What definitely set me up for success later on has been finding mentors who have experienced and gone through these transitions already and are competent to guide you through the challenges you will face.
